Brno – Brno will reconstruct the former and currently vacant customs office on Křenová Street for 19 million crowns, which will feature seven so-called starter apartments. This was stated to journalists today by Deputy Mayor Oliver Pospíšil (ČSSD). The work is expected to start in the spring and finish later this year.

The building used to serve as a customs office and is currently in poor condition. "The original appearance of the building will be preserved, as it has significant historical value. Five 2+kk apartments and two 3+kk apartments will be created there. All will be in the starter regime for young families," Pospíšil stated.

The rent for the starter apartments should be reduced to around 60 crowns per square meter. The usual rent is higher by dozens of crowns per square meter. According to Pospíšil, there will be non-residential space on the ground floor that could serve as a café with outdoor seating.

The building at Křenová Street number 76 is a standalone two-story structure with four apartments and also has non-residential spaces. The construction-technical survey demonstrated that it is in very poor condition and needs to be reconstructed. Pospíšil had previously stated that the work would affect, among other things, the networks, as well as the layouts inside the building, to create seven apartments.

Brno manages nearly 30,000 apartments, which is about 15 percent of the total housing stock in the city. The remainder is in private ownership. Most municipal apartments are managed by the city districts.
