Brno - The reconstruction of the Horníkova Primary and Nursery School in Brno will cost approximately 175 million crowns. This was announced to journalists today by the mayor's deputy Richard Mrázek (ANO). The work is expected to start no earlier than summer and will last for 17 months. It will lead to savings. Nearly 40 million crowns should be covered by grants.

Brno city councilors today approved a tender for the extensive reconstruction. According to Mrázek, the building will take on a form worthy of the 21st century. "We will insulate the exterior walls and the roof, which will have its emergency condition caused by last year's storm addressed. We will replace windows and also work on complete electrical and air conditioning installations,” Mrázek specified.

He stated that the energy demand of the building should be reduced. However, the work is so extensive that it will continue during the school year. "In cooperation with the school management, a schedule for coordinating construction and lessons has been prepared, considering the operation of the school,” Mrázek added.

Brno will seek a grant from the European Union for part of the costs amounting to 36.5 million crowns. There are approximately 140 nursery schools in Brno attended by around 12,000 children, and 70 primary schools attended by nearly 30,000 students.
