Brno - After last year's pause due to the coronavirus pandemic, Museum Night will take place again on Saturday in Brno. The doors of some exhibition halls, galleries, or heritage sites will remain open until midnight. In addition to the exhibitions, people can look forward to a complementary program, including guided tours, concerts, creative workshops, and a fashion show. Museum Night in Brno is usually held in May. However, the pandemic circumstances were not optimal this spring, resulting in most institutions agreeing on an August date.
The public transport company of the city of Brno will take care of the shuttle transport between museums and galleries, and for the first time, people can also use shared bicycles, said Andrea Vojtěchovská, the coordinator of Museum Night from the Moravian Gallery. Most exhibitions will be accessible from 6 PM to midnight for a voluntary entrance fee, or with a significant discount compared to regular operating hours.
In addition to the Moravian Gallery or the House of Arts of the city of Brno, several other buildings will also open to the public, such as the regional office, the Czech National Bank, the Jiří Mahen Library, and Zetor Gallery. On the other hand, some traditional participants, specifically the Technical Museum of Brno and the Moravian Museum, are absent, as the summer date did not suit them for various reasons.
The Špilberk Castle will also not participate in Museum Night. From 4 PM, it will be closed due to preparations for the evening fireworks of the Ignis Brunensis festival, which is launched from Špilberk. The fireworks start at 10:30 PM and can also be watched from the garden of the Tugendhat villa. The garden will be freely accessible, as will the adjacent garden of the Löw-Beer villa.
A small group of interested individuals will also access the villa listed on the UNESCO World Heritage list on Saturday evening. The tours start at 9 PM and 9:20 PM, each for only 16 people.
"The opportunity to see the interiors of a significant UNESCO heritage site and then watch the fireworks from the so-called children's terrace of the villa is a special affair. The capacity is of course limited, so interested parties must purchase tickets in advance for 800 crowns through www.smsticket.cz. The collected entrance fee will be fully allocated to the fund account of the Social Foundation of the city of Brno and the South Moravian Region," stated Zbyněk Šolc, the director of the Museum of the City of Brno.
The exact program of Museum Night can be found by interested parties on the website www.brnenskamuzejninoc.cz.
