Brno has a city booth with greenery for seating up to 15 people

People could compare the urban cell to a gazebo with greenery or to shaded benches under a structure. "City Cell Prototype, or the urban cell focuses on rainwater management, which is directed from the roof into a biofilter container," Gardoňová stated. The water gradually reaches the plants placed in pots and hung on the walls of the cell. "The greenery on the structure and in the biofilter cools the surroundings, produces oxygen, and captures impurities. The evaporation of water from the biofilter also contributes to cooling the microclimate," Gardoňová explained.

A similar technology can be applied on a larger scale, so it would be possible to have rain gardens functioning on the principle of biofilters in the future. "If the prototype of green furniture in the city center proves successful, we could place additional pieces next year, for example, in Freedom Square, Vegetable Market, or Dominican Square, where people need to hide from the sun and cool down on large heated surfaces," Ander said.

The city proceeded with the installation of the cell due to extreme drought and heat. It collaborated with the organization Public Green of the City of Brno and the Next Institute platform, which brings together architects and urban planners and focuses on adapting cities to climate change.
