Brno – The Brno creative hub Kumst is transitioning to regular operation after a year of pilot operation, offering more events for the public and also consulting to support entrepreneurship. The main purpose of Kumst is to provide a base in the center of Brno for professionals from creative industries. The current occupancy is approximately 60 percent, and more tenants will be able to move in soon. The building hosts graphic and fashion designers, photographers, a sound or podcast studio, video production, an illustrator, and a furniture maker. There are plans for an incubator for computer game creators.
The building on Údolní Street belongs to the University of Technology, which was previously used by the Faculty of Fine Arts. Kumst is a project of the innovation agency JIC, established by the region, the city of Brno, and four universities. Kumst has rented the building for eight years with an option.
The intention to build a center for creative and cultural industries in Brno originated more than ten years ago. A study prepared by JIC in 2014 showed that over 20,000 people work in Brno companies that fall within the cultural and creative industries.
