Blansko - The Town Hall in Blansko will announce an architectural competition by the end of the year for the use of the high-rise building in the city center. The outdated ten-story building from the 70s is in poor condition. The building is semi-empty and the people of Blansko do not know what to do with it. "We will give architects a free hand. They will be able to propose not only repairs or reducing the building, but even its demolition and the use of the resulting space," said today to ČTK the mayor of Blansko, Jaroslava Králová. The building is the tallest in the city. Despite its very poor technical condition, it is one of its landmarks. The council admits that some citizens may object to the demolition of the high-rise building. The town hall expects architects to present a diverse range of proposals for the modification of the building, or possibly the resulting space after demolition, by April 2007. The projects will be made public. According to rough estimates, the repair of the building would cost about 100 million crowns, which would be too large an investment for the town hall. Therefore, the city wants to obtain funding from European Union (EU) funds for the project. The building is not suitable for conversion into apartments, and due to its technical parameters, it cannot be converted into a parking garage either. There are sufficient vacant office spaces in the city.
