Blansko

Blansko - Blansko wants to offer people new building plots. In this town of twenty thousand, there is a shortage of available plots, and locals often move out of town because of this. The new residential areas are included in the emerging urban plan, which the city leadership will approve this December. In addition to construction, it also addresses calming traffic in the center, extending the pedestrian zone, and bridging the busy railway line that divides Blansko into two poorly connected parts. Jiří Crha, the deputy mayor (ODS), said this to ČTK today.
According to him, the lack of building sites is the main problem of the town. There is a significant interest in building family houses. Most of the time, everything is stalled due to difficulties with land purchases. The city is likely to offer interested parties part of the Luhy area and a location on the outskirts of the Horní Lhota district for construction. There are also available plots for construction in some infill areas in the local parts of Obůrka and Olešná.
The urban plan will be developed as a vision for further construction in Blansko with a view to the year 2019. One of the main changes should be limiting traffic in the town center and extending the pedestrian zone from Rožmitálova Street, which forms it, all the way to St. Martin's Church. The pedestrian zone could thus eventually double in length.
One of the issues is the division of the town by the railway. The railway is part of the Břeclav-Děčín main line, which crosses the country and therefore experiences heavy traffic. According to architects, connecting Blansko with the so-called Old Blansko could be possible by building two to three bridges over the tracks. "Of course, this is just a vision. Building the bridges would be very costly. However, from a long-term perspective, we need to consider these options," Crha explained. He also stated that it is necessary to look for a location for building a shopping center that would have stores with quality clothing and DIY equipment.
In the future, according to planners, it is necessary to address the use of the site of the industrial company Adast Blansko. It is in the town center, and firms are still operating in its production halls. Over time, however, this area should be incorporated into the urban development.
Questions hang over the future of the dilapidated Dukla hotel, which stands on Republic Square right in the center of town. There are currently legal disputes over its ownership. Most political parties that recently sought the favor of voters in the municipal elections propose the demolition of this building, stating that it detracts from Blansko.
