Hradec Králové - The bus station in Hradec Králové, whose construction was accompanied by complications and nearly a year's delay, is finished. The official opening of the terminal is scheduled for Thursday, with the first buses carrying passengers set to enter on Saturday, July 5. This was announced today by Miloslav Kulich, the director of the Hradec Králové transport company. The construction of the station cost approximately 360 million crowns excluding VAT.

The station, which features an unconventional tent-like structure, will initially serve only city and line buses. Municipal trolleybuses will remain at a temporary terminal at Koruna. The trolleybuses will move to the terminal in October after the completion of renovations to Riegrovo Square in front of the Czech Railways station.
Originally, the construction company Strabag was supposed to complete the station last August. Due to difficulties with the construction of the complex steel structure, the city council pushed the deadline to the end of November. Strabag did not meet this deadline either, and the Hradec Králové transport company, as the terminal's investor, received a bank guarantee from Strabag amounting to 80 million crowns.
Strabag then promised to finish the station by June. The final stages of construction were also complicated by issues with the occupancy permit. If the station was not completed by the end of June, the transport company would lose its right to a grant for the terminal from EU funds totaling 62 million crowns.
The total costs for the construction of the terminal and the reconstruction of Riegrovo Square exceed half a billion crowns, making it one of the largest municipal investments in recent years. Hradec Králové had no bus station until now. Buses currently depart from temporary stands in front of the train station and from a nearby panel area.
