Brno - The sports and recreation complex of the Brno University of Technology, located under Palackého Hill, has been enhanced by a new building with locker rooms, facilities, and offices. The facility, which was officially opened today, cost 35 million crowns. It directly connects to the modern multipurpose hall, athletic stadium, tennis courts, and other sports facilities, with a pedestrian bridge linking it to the oval, said school spokesperson Jitka Vanýsková to ČTK.
On the first floor, there are teacher offices, a refreshment area, a seminar room, and clubrooms. A separate section includes a gym, a relaxation room with a whirlpool, and a sauna. In the second floor, architects Ivan Ruller and Martin Borák placed locker rooms, washrooms, and facilities for the athletic stadium and other sports facilities. The remaining part includes rooms for coaches and referees. The entire building is barrier-free.
The neighboring multipurpose hall was opened by the Brno University of Technology back in January. It cost 110 million crowns, and the playing area exceeds 2300 square meters. VUT also plans to host the Czech Academic Games there next year.
For several years, the university has been gradually concentrating its sports activities in the complex under Palackého Hill, adjacent to the VUT dormitory area. According to Vanýsková, this is the largest university sports facility in the Czech Republic.
