Prague - Staropramen Breweries sold the Braník brewery site in Prague to ING Real Estate Development, which plans to build apartments in the facility. This was reported by spokesperson for Staropramen Breweries Michaela Trýznová today, adding that ING Real Estate Development won the tender. The price of the transaction was not disclosed. Production at the Braník brewery ended at the end of January, and beer of this brand is now brewed at the Staropramen brewery in Smíchov.
"Considering the necessary change of the zoning plan and the entire approval and permitting process, we expect to start with the new construction at the former Braník brewery site probably within three years, with an investment of about two billion crowns,” said ING Real Estate Development spokesperson Renáta Kodadová.
According to her, the final shape of the project has not yet been decided. However, ING Real Estate expects the construction of apartments, supplemented by civic amenities, retail, and other services.
The tender for the sale of the site was announced by Staropramen Breweries in March of this year. The land covers approximately 52,000 square meters. The site contains 13 buildings with a total built-up area of all floors of 33,500 square meters.
“During the negotiations with the future investor, we were, of course, also interested in the investor's intentions regarding the site. We are pleased that new apartments will be created in the former brewery building; it is a dignified continuation of the use of this place,” said Zdeněk Lux, former brewmaster of the Braník brewery, now brewmaster of the Staropramen brewery.
According to the production and technical director of Staropramen Breweries František Šámal, the output of the Braník brewery continuously increased and reached a record 1.124 million hectoliters of beer last year. However, the growing output required modernization of production, which the Braník brewery could not accommodate due to its closed location and status as a cultural monument.
Staropramen Breweries is the second largest beer producer in the Czech Republic, with a 15% market share. They currently have two production facilities in the Czech Republic - Staropramen and Ostravar. The company is part of the InBev group, a leading brewing company in the world.
ING Real Estate is an international real estate company with a total portfolio of more than 91 billion euros. It is part of the ING Group.
