Arboretum Nový Dvůr opened an exhibition dedicated to its founder

Stebřice - Visitors to the Nový Dvůr Arboretum in Stebřice in the Opava region can view a new permanent exhibition that has been established in the renovated castle building. The exhibition titled Quido, The Story of the Arboretum in Nový Dvůr commemorates the founder of the local park, Quido Riedel, and also traces the history of the arboretum and the castle itself. David Váhala, spokesperson for the Silesian Regional Museum, which oversees the arboretum, said this today.

"It was Quido Riedel, the owner of the Nový Dvůr estate from 1906 to 1928, who was at the origin of the park, which gradually became one of the most valuable dendrological areas in northern Moravia and Silesia. Based on his efforts, today's arboretum was established in 1958," he stated.

Co-author of the exhibition Jana Polášková added that visitors will become acquainted not only with his life but also glimpse into the world where he skillfully created garden compositions with exquisite taste. "And with incredible attention to detail," Polášková said.

The exhibition presents Riedel not only as the founder of the park but also as a respected expert in horse breeding. It highlights his contribution to the breeding of the Silesian Noriker, a significant cold-blooded breed. Another part of the exhibition is dedicated to the development of the arboretum from its establishment to the present. Visitors will learn about the construction of one of the most significant dendrological collections in Central Europe as well as the transformations of the area over more than a hundred years of its existence.

The authors also paid attention to the history of the Nový Dvůr castle. The exhibition presents its former owners and architectural development. The atmosphere of the noble residence from the early 20th century is evoked by a historic interior composed of items from the collections of the Silesian Regional Museum.

"The new exhibition combines textual information, period photographs, audiovisual presentations, and interactive and haptic elements," Váhala added. According to him, it is possible to enter the castle only in the company of a guide at designated times. The museum publishes information about tours on its website.
