Prague - The Accreditation Commission has approved the establishment of a private art college, with former National Gallery head Milan Knížák set to be the rector. If the Ministry of Education confirms the decision, it could theoretically start operating as early as this autumn. Jiří Smrčka, the commission's secretary, said this to ČTK today after the meeting. The school has received accreditation for four years. The commission has previously rejected accreditation requests twice, but now, according to them, the applicants have improved staffing and the structure of the study program. The school aims to offer a bachelor's degree focused on fine arts. The school intends to be backed by the Art&Design Institute. Up to 200 students are expected to enroll in one academic year. Among the most prestigious Czech universities in the field of fine arts are the Academy of Fine Arts and the High School of Applied Arts, but art is also taught in places like Brno, Ostrava, Zlín, or Ústí nad Labem.
