Foreign news this week has primarily focused on the events surrounding Rem Koolhaas, and Friday will be no exception. On January 3, 2007, we published a report on the winning competition for the new stock exchange in Shenzhen. Now, there are five new visualizations of the discussed project on dezeen.com, which directly exude inspiration from the realized and unrealized works of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. The ceiling projection strongly reminds me of Jenny Holzer's exhibition in Berlin, and the appearance of the entire building merges three of Mies's structures at once. That it is not about copying but a certain kind of irony is evidenced, for example, by the middle part of the skyscraper resembling the Convention Hall project in Chicago from 1953. The structural division of the facade is identical but reversed by 180 degrees. Link>
