Project of the city by De Architecten Cie. in China

On February 28, 2007, the Amsterdam office of De Architecten Cie. announced that it had succeeded in winning an urban design competition for a new city for 20,000 residents near the port city of Tianjin. The winning project covers an area of over 43 square kilometers. The project involves massive land shifts in the river delta and the construction of a network of new islands with varying densities of development. These new islands will create an area of over 28 square kilometers. The mixed-use development will comprise a total of 9.2 million square meters of office space, 7.9 million square meters of residential space, 800,000 square meters of hotels, and 2.5 million square meters of commercial space. At the center of the entire development, there will be a "Water Square," in the middle of which a cultural center and hotel are planned. The building named "Crystal Mountain" resembles a cut through a mountain and is set to become a tourist attraction for the surrounding area. The enormous side glass façade is intended to be operable, and the vaulted giant space inside the building will be used during both winter and summer. Link>
