At the evening reception on June 22, 2007, the annual RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architecture) awards were ceremoniously presented in London. Fourteen projects in Great Britain and thirteen buildings in other European Union countries were honored.
Among the awarded European buildings this year are also Casa da Música by Rem Koolhaas, Literaturhaus by David Chipperfield, and the reconstruction of Dresden station by Norman Foster.
Additionally, the Lubetkin Prize was awarded, named after Berthold Lubetkin. This architect was born in Georgia and worked in Paris before moving to London in the 1930s, where he founded the influential company Tecton. The Lubetkin Prize is awarded to significant buildings realized outside European territory by members of RIBA. The building is selected from the finalists of the RIBA International Awards, which are then personally visited by a jury composed of architects and laypeople. This year's Lubetkin Prize was awarded to Southern Cross railway station in Melbourne, Australia, by Nicholas Grimshaw. The remaining two finalists were David Chipperfield with the Des Moines Public Library and Norman Foster with the New York skyscraper Hearst Tower. Link>
