Rome - The Neapolitan mafia camorra has built a small town on the outskirts of southern Italy's Naples without any permission, consisting of 50 buildings and 435 apartments ready for rent. The court has decided to seize it. This was reported by today's Italian press.

The town has grown, according to satellite images, in less than three years in Casalnuovo on the northeastern outskirts of Naples on several plots of land where vegetables were previously grown, without the approval of municipal and regional authorities and without them being informed.
Sewage, electrical wiring, and water supply were secured thanks to fake building permits and the influence of the mafia in the companies that carried out these works. According to the Corriere della Sera, the mayor of Naples swore that he does not know where these illegally constructed buildings stand. However, he added that he is prepared to order their demolition. The newspaper reported that some apartments have apparently already been sold and in five of them, most likely, someone is already living.
According to initial findings by investigators, in most cases the materials used do not meet the standards and safety regulations in the Naples region, where there is a risk of seismic activity.
The chairman of the Senate Committee for the Environment is demanding a complete demolition of the illegal construction from the Ministry of the Interior and an investigation into the relationships between the camorra and local politicians who tolerated the development of the town, the press added.
