Meander in Helsinki by Steven Holl

On Monday, June 26, 2006, the results of the international competition for a residential block in the old Helsinki district of Taivallahti were announced. The winner was New York architect Steven Holl, who designed a 180-meter long glass meander with 49 apartments (62 - 222 m²). The new residential block will be between two and seven stories high. Its glass façade will be equipped with sensors that respond to light conditions, which will automatically control the appearance of the glass from clear to opaque.
