Summer Pavilion MoMA/P.S.1 2007 by Ball & Nogues

Summer pavilions P.S.1, a branch of New York's MoMA, are always a major social event. Each year, a young architect or emerging studio under 40 is invited to build "something" in the P.S.1 courtyard with a limited budget of $70,000. For this year's eighth edition, Gaston Nogues and Benjamin Ball from Los Angeles were selected, who, along with engineer Paul Endres, won out over four remaining finalists in the invited competition. Their design features simple folded tent-like structures. Alanna Heiss, director of P.S.1, sees in the design “a Fellini-esque traditional circus tent replaced by hallucinogenic red, orange, and amber silicone scales. For us, people from the East Coast, it is a true manifestation of the wild California dream.” This year's pavilion opens on June 21. Link>
