The exhibition CATALOG HOUSE will present to the general public the story of the creation of twelve quality family homes of small scale by Czech builders and architects.
In Czech society, there is a prevailing stigma regarding the inaccessibility of architecture for ordinary builders and the notion of its financial inaccessibility. A common argument is also the time-consuming nature of preparing a project and the risk of architect dictation. In general awareness, there is a lack of experience that a house from an architect's workshop is a joint work of the builder with the architect, in which thorough understanding of the needs and life of the builder and their family is materialized.
As a result, in our cities and towns, we see a carpet-like development of catalog houses that offer users a false sense of exclusivity for little money. This gives rise to areas of heterogeneous typologies and aesthetic concepts of architecture that have no relation to the surroundings and tradition. Nowadays, we can find dozens of projects in our country where architects collaborated with builders in all phases of implementation. Through detailed analysis of the client’s life, they were able to save costs on the realization of homes and create a work that corresponds to their ideas about life.
The family houses were selected so that people with average incomes could afford them, and they will be presented through photographs, models, plans, and interviews with the builders.
The exhibition will run until December 21, 2018, and will be accessible daily except for Mondays from 10 AM to 6 PM. The accompanying program of the exhibition will include guided tours, discussions, and lectures by individual creators. A detailed guide on working with an architect will be published for the exhibition.
