When I visited the MAXII (National Museum of 21st Century Arts) in the summer of 2005, there was only one reinforced concrete wall supported by a lot of scaffolding. By last year's biennale, the building already had its own exhibition in the Giardini. From the recently published photos, it is starting to look like the realization of the museum is finally taking off.
Hadid won the commission by winning an international competition in 1998. The form of her design responds to the history of the former industrial area. Link>
