Zlín - The Regional Gallery of Fine Arts in Zlín will showcase the work of architect and builder Dominik Fey, who left behind a number of buildings in the Zlín and South Moravian regions, especially from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The exhibition will begin on May 10 and will run until July 31, as reported today by the representative of the Baťa Institute, where the gallery is located.

"Although Fey has left his mark on the appearance of many municipalities and towns, he is almost unknown to the public. This exhibition aims to change that at least a little. There will be previously unexhibited archival documents, plans, and photographs on display. Due to the sensitivity of the materials, we cannot display the documents for more than one month, which is also why the exhibition will evolve," said the exhibition curator Ivan Bergmann.

Dominik Fey (1863 to 1950) studied at the Czech Technical University in Prague and established his own architectural office in Uherské Hradiště in 1895. His work was influenced by historicizing styles as well as modernity and Art Nouveau. He designed civic, residential, sacred, and industrial buildings. He was also a builder, engaged in the restoration of historical architecture.

Among his most famous works is the civic school in Zlín from 1897, which later served as the regional library and is now known as Zlín Club 204. At the time, it was the most magnificent building and symbolizes the end of the old Zlín era before Baťa's development. Other buildings by Fey include the town hall in Napajedla in the Zlín region or residential buildings on Palackého náměstí in Uherské Hradiště. Fey's own house Na tůni was demolished in the 1980s, but ceramic mosaics by Jan Köhler, with whom he collaborated for many years, were preserved and later installed on the facade of the Slovácké Museum. Among Fey's last realizations was the Orla Community House in Buchlovice in the Uherské Hradiště region from 1930, where he also contributed to the renovations of the castle's interior and gardens.
