Antiquariat and Club Fiducia invite you to the opening of the exhibition

Ostrava's Mining Towers

on Monday, May 10th at 6:00 PM in the entrance hall of the antiquariat.

The exhibition opening will be accompanied by a guided tour by Martin Strakoš.

The exhibition will present the inseparable Ostravian landmarks - mining towers, which are a testament to the city's glorious mining past. It will reflect on the development of this type of engineering structure and the current state of these monuments. Their originally primarily practical function changed after the cessation of coal mining into an important symbol of the city, similar to how the function of commemorative and now merely symbolic landmarks - water towers along the Vltava in Prague's historic core - has transformed. The current form of the mining towers, captured in the photographs of Roman Polášek, will be contrasted with their appearance during the peak of mining development in the city when they were part of extensive mining areas, now preserved only in a few examples such as the Hlubina mine, Anselm / Eduard Urx, and Michal / Petr Cingr. Short texts will recall the history of the respective coal deep mines and the role of these towers in the silhouette of contemporary Ostrava.
In collaboration with the National Heritage Institute Ostrava.

This event is supported by: The Statutory City of Ostrava, Ministry of Culture, Ministry for Regional Development, Czech Architecture Foundation, the Feltl couple, Ostrava City Archive, Concept.
