Valašské Meziříčí is located at the confluence of two rivers of the same name for over eight centuries. The image of the town has transformed over time, but it underwent the most significant changes during the 20th century. The exhibition recalls the town where our grandparents grew up, highlights valuable buildings that we often pass by unnoticed, and offers a vision of the town in which our children will grow up.
The exhibition introduces the original appearance of the town of Valašské Meziříčí through paintings, drawings, photographs, old maps, and models - it portrays the circumstances of its origin and the character of life in two previously separate communities. We will learn when the town began to be understood as an urban unit and how its structure began to develop in a planned manner. We will stop at the most significant buildings and their creators, as well as at the time when the centuries-old panorama of the town was hidden behind the walls of panel housing estates. Through models and visualizations, we will also cross into the 21st century - thanks to Ing. arch. Zdeněk Trefil, who has already dedicated several architectural studies and urban projects to his hometown Valašské Meziříčí. Playful visitors will also find their place at the exhibition – they can assemble some of the significant buildings themselves, try to locate the places of now-defunct objects, or adapt the entire square to their liking - its wooden model, supplemented with interesting facts about each of the houses, will be part of the exhibition. The exhibition is complemented by the cozy Kavárnička Antonína Duřpeka - in front of a nearly two-meter canvas depicting Křižanova sawmill in full operation, a model of a 1922 Citroen car will be parked. Visitors will also be able to take photos in it.
A guided program is prepared for kindergartens, primary schools, secondary schools, and organized groups. In addition to the guided program, commented walks through the town are regularly held every Wednesday, meeting at 10 am at the Information Center in the second courtyard of the Žerotín Castle in Valašské Meziříčí. The walk can also be arranged for another date (for a minimum of 6 people, by prior telephone arrangement at 571 684 558 or 776 202 254). The first walk will take place on July 3, and the last one on September 25, 2013.
