The project of rebuilding New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, a residential house made of unusual materials in Santiago de Chile, or a project for a modern park in the Chinese city of Hangzhou – the architectural exhibition International Relations. Young Architects from Germany presents international works by young architects from Germany. From April 23 to June 30, 2010, at the Architecture Cabinet of the House of Art in Ostrava.
The exhibition is the result of cooperation between the Gallery of Fine Arts in Ostrava and the Goethe-Institut in Prague, whose common goal is to introduce German architecture in the Czech Republic. Following last year's exhibition dedicated to architect Erich Mendelsohn, this year's exhibition International Relations. Young Architects from Germany is already the second joint project.
The exhibition features fourteen representative international projects by young architects in the fields of building construction, residential architecture, urban planning, and landscape architecture. “The works demonstrate sensitive building methods within old urban fabric, the integration of old and new architecture, the use of new technologies while maintaining existing structures, and a wide range of architectural creation from land construction and urban development to interior and landscape architecture,” says Dr. Angelika Eder, program director of the Goethe-Institut Prague.
The presented projects were mainly created after 2004. The focus of the exhibition consists of models, photographs, plans, and film sequences. The projects showcase a high level of competence from the emerging generation of German architects. Two of the architects - Ruth Scheurer and Gerold Perler will personally come to Ostrava. On April 27 at 6 PM, they will present their winning project, the Ferry Porsche Congress Center in Zell am See (see image), which is also on display. The architects are coming at the invitation of the Goethe-Institut Prague.
The exhibition was created by the Institute for Foreign Relations (ifa) Stuttgart in cooperation with the Federal Chamber of Architects (BAK) Berlin and Deutsche Welle. The organization of the exhibition in Ostrava involves: The Gallery of Fine Arts in Ostrava (GVUO) and SPOK - the Society for Ostrava Culture along with the Goethe-Institut Prague.
