The year 2017 is marked by the celebration of the centenary of Finland's independence, and thanks to the traveling exhibition “Echoes / 100 Years of Finnish Design and Architecture”, the festive atmosphere will also transfer to the Prague Gallery Mánes in October. The Czech public will be able to familiarize themselves with both renowned works as well as unconventional creations and lesser-known gems of Finnish designers and architects. The exhibition is organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Finland in Prague and will take place from October 20 to 30. It will also be possible to visit it as part of the festival program Designblok.
The exhibition is divided into eight main themes, with Finnish nature and society as the central element. These are specifically behind the development and current form of Finnish design and architecture, which is characterized by its timelessness, purity, pragmatic functionality, and simple elegance. Among the main partners of the exhibition is the Finnish development company YIT, which celebrated its centenary since its founding in 2012 and has been inextricably linked to the history of modern Finland since the very beginning. It not only brings Finnish-style housing to the Czech Republic but also strives to introduce the Finnish lifestyle and culture to the Czech public, which goes hand in hand with its involvement and support of this project.
The traveling exhibition was launched at the beginning of the year in Warsaw, Poland, and subsequently moved to Bratislava and Budapest. Prague is thus the fourth stop in line, and the cycle will conclude with a November exhibition in Berlin.
The exhibition can be seen from October 20 to 30, 2017, daily from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM in the exhibition hall of Gallery Mánes. Admission is free.
