Diplomas '10: Exhibition of Diploma Works by VŠUP Students

In Prague on June 14, 2010 / As every year, this year more than seventy students will also complete their studies at the Academy of Art, Architecture and Design in Prague. Each of them has dedicated six years to studying in one of the twenty-three studios of various artistic focuses and will now present their works at the final school-wide exhibition. The exhibition DIPLOMKY'10 will be opened with a speech by the rector of the school, PhDr. Ing. Pavel Liška, on Wednesday, June 16 at 6 PM in the foyer of the school and will last until July 2, 2010 (Jana Palacha Square 80, Prague 1, open daily 10 AM to 6 PM).
Visitors will find the main exhibition program directly in the studios in the building of the Academy of Art, Architecture and Design in Prague, but some graduates will also present their works at external exhibitions. Notable are the graduates of the Design Studio I and II from Zlín (Jaromír Materna, Denisa Merklová, Jindřich Vodička, Michal Bačák, and Boris Klimek), who will display their works in the VŠUP Gallery on the ground floor of the school. Zuzana Serbáková from the Clothing and Footwear Studio will present a collection of footwear made from high-tech materials together with the Fashion Creation Studio in the drawing room on the 2nd floor of VŠUP. Michal Šeba, a student at the Photography Studio, will exhibit his diploma work Double Fantasy until July 4, 2010, at the Rudolfinum Gallery (Alšovo nábřeží 12, Prague 1). Vendula Skořepová from the Textile Creation Studio will exhibit at the (A)VOID Gallery on the waterfront under Rašínovo nábřeží 8 in Prague 2 (opening on June 17, 2010, at 6 PM). Prokop Bartoníček from the Supermedia Studio will present his diploma project Worlds as Fragments in the exhibition space 22PRESENTS, Mlynářská 4, Prague 1 (opening on June 16, 2010, at 7:30 PM).
By visiting the exhibition, both professional and lay audiences have the opportunity to assess the quality of the projects and the overall level of study at the school. It is also possible to attend public defenses of diploma works, which will take place on June 22 and 23, 2010 (from 10 AM to 3 PM).
Along with the exhibition DIPLOMKY'10, some exhibitions of the final works of VŠUP students can also be visited. The Sculpture Studio presents the exhibition Take Your Sculpture to the Water outdoors under the open sky at the Prague waterfront - Rašínovo nábřeží. The exhibition is organized with (A)VOID GALLERY and with the support of the Prague 2 Municipal District and will last until June 30, 2010. The Studio LR Gallery presents an exhibition of VŠUP students Random Encounters, where students from the Clothing and Footwear Design studio under the guidance of Liběna Rochová meet with the K.O.V. studio under the guidance of Eva Eisler. until July 6, 2010. Admission to the gallery is free. Studio LR, Malostranské nábřeží 1, 1st floor, Prague 1. The Graphic Design and New Media Studio presents an exhibition and a book published for the five years of the studio's operation entitled ISLAND OF TREASURES at Tranzitdisplay Gallery (Dittrichova 9, Prague 2) until June 27, 2010.
Alongside the previous exhibition of final works Artsemestr, individual works will now also be evaluated by a committee, and the most talented authors will be nominated for school awards. The exhibition will culminate in a festive announcement, where five faculty awards and the Rector's Award of VŠUP will be presented. The ceremonial event will take place on Monday, June 28, 2010, at 7 PM in Žluté lázně (Prague 4 - Podolí).
A catalog will also be published for the diploma works exhibition, where each graduate's work will be given a two-page spread. The catalog can be purchased – along with other publications from the VŠUP Publishing House – during the exhibition at the VŠUP Gallery.
