Olomouc - The exhibition 'Fragments' by renowned photographer Ester Havlová offers a connection between modern architecture and history, which visitors will be able to view starting Thursday at the Archdiocesan Museum in Olomouc. A total of 22 photos of modern buildings from both the Czech Republic and abroad are displayed on panels in the Gothic cloister of Zdík's Palace. This is the museum's very first exhibition of photographs, curator Jakub Potůček told reporters today.
"The intimate exhibition will introduce viewers to the work for which Havlová is most famous, namely photographs of architecture," Potůček stated. According to him, the author collaborates with all significant studios and architectural historians in the Czech Republic, and her photographs are featured in leading Czech architectural reviews.
At the exhibition, which is the author's first solo presentation in Olomouc, visitors will see photographs of, for example, the Jewish Museum in Berlin, the University Library in Utrecht, the Dancing House in Prague, and the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao. "I love all the buildings that I present in this exhibition. They are my darlings. However, I couldn't choose a favorite," Havlová remarked. She added that she selected the photographs to showcase beautiful architecture in visually striking images, often in detail. "The key parameter was the atmosphere and also a bit of mystery, where it might be overlooked at first glance what type of building it is," the author added. Among the exhibited photographs are also shots of the Archdiocesan Museum in Olomouc.
The exhibition is accompanied by a publication from the Prague publisher Titanic. It is not a classic catalog but rather has the character of an author's book. A special paper case contains loose sheets in two sizes with printed photographs and a brochure with accompanying texts.
Ester Havlová has been focusing on architectural photography since studying at the Secondary School of Graphic Arts and later at FAMU. In addition, she also works on theater photography and documentation of visual artworks.
Interested parties can view the Olomouc exhibition until September 30.
