Ing. arch. Petr Hurník, along with students from the Urban Planning studio at the Faculty of Architecture, VUT in Brno, is organizing a generously scaled event for the third time focused on opening a discussion about the revitalization of public spaces, considerations on restoring feelings to the city, and the possibilities of a European city. Brno, Bratislava, Vienna, Prague, Berlin, Vsetín, and Paris simultaneously become venues for discussion in the CITYMEGAHAPPENING ("urbanist Spartakiad"). A series of more than 100 student action creations animate projects in public space through composition directly on the streets and squares. This space is now finally once again a topic and a lively question for random passersby.
The new concept of urban planning education at the Faculty of Architecture recycles the deaf ("waste") zones of the city, which are transformed using the "waste energy" of the educational process - student projects. Student projects (extensive xerographies) of renewed urban spaces will be exhibited, always in confrontation between the pair of perspectives old state/proposed state (better PLACE), along with bibliophile "accompanying reports" (artistic creations on the theme "text and place") and multimedia documentation of happenings carried out in 2005 and 2006. Proposed implementations will be compared with renewed spaces in Central European cities. As the city grows uncontrollably, so does the 3rd Biennale of Urbanism.
