Announcement of the 2nd year of the City Point competition | On the road through the city 2006

CITY POINT 2006
The City Point competition exhibition | On the road through the city 2006 is announced by the civic association City Point with the support of the City of Prague Council, the Czech Chamber of Architects and the Design Center of the Czech Republic. The project is under the patronage of the Minister for Regional Development Mgr. Radko Martínek.
The second year of the City Point competition exhibition | On the road through the city 2006 follows last year's event, which received a positive response not only from professionals dealing with urban furniture but also from the media, students, and the public.
New features are prepared for competitors, participants, sponsors, and partners - compared to 2005, the organizers decided to set specific themes for submitted designs in the New Inspiration category. This will definitely bring greater competition in the individual categories as well as better evaluability of the submitted designs. Throughout the following years, this will also allow us to effectively map all areas in the creation of urban furniture and to further address current topics. As was the case last year, one of the winning projects will be realized, and the output will be a catalog of all submitted works, City Point book 2006.

CITY POINT 2005
A total of 37 works were submitted to the competition, with the most frequently addressed topics being benches and bins. However, there were also designs for lighting elements, bollards, navigation systems, or entire sets of elements. In addition to three main prizes, the Special Jury Prize, Special mmcité Prize, and Special AMBIENTE RESTAURANTS GROUP Prize for the navigation system were awarded.
The City Point competition exhibition was presented at fairs and exhibitions. In March, it was the exhibition Green City as part of the Praga Florea 2005 fair (invitation to participate in the competition), in September at the 16th International Construction Fair FOR ARCH 2005 (all competition designs and a prototype of the winning design were presented), and from October 2005 to January 2006, the exhibition Please Have a Seat at the Faculty of Architecture VUT in Brno.

CATEGORIES
A: New Inspiration
1. Lighting in Urban Environment - lighting suitable for use in public spaces
2. Silent Distributor - for distributing publications offered for free
3. Advertising Element as Part of the Urban Organism - any specific element of urban furniture that carries information (advertising)
As part of the City Point competition, there will also be a special prize awarded by Urban Design and Indal under the name Light & Nature in the City.

B: Realized Works
The focus is on elements of urban furniture that are or have been demonstrably a physical part of urban furniture and that were completed within the time period
1990 - 2006.

JURY
The organizers are trying to assemble the most diverse jury possible so that each juror looks at the issues of urban furniture from a different perspective. The aim is to include representatives who deal with designing urban furniture as well as manufacturers or individuals who evaluate it through their contributions to magazines.
The works of this year's competition will be judged by a jury consisting of:

Osamu Okamura (editor-in-chief of Era 21 magazine)
Veronika Loušová (editor-in-chief of czechdesign.cz)
Ludvík Grym (architect, representative of ČKA)

RESULT PRESENTATION
The entire competition will conclude with the publication of the CITY POINT book 2006, which will feature all awarded works, realizations, and new designs. An essential part will also be a web presentation that will introduce all submitted works, useful information about current trends, links to manufacturers and designers, and many other interesting topics related to the theme. The City Point exhibition will be presented in the form of exhibitions at several locations in the Czech Republic throughout the following year. Media partners of the competition will also inform about City Point.
