Competition: Bezalel Academy Campus, Jerusalem

The Israeli Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, an art school with a century-old tradition, plans to build a new campus in the center of Jerusalem. For the design of the campus, which is to be located in an area known as Russian Compound about 300 m from the historical core, Bezalel Academy has announced a two-round architectural competition.

The competition is intended for professionals. Participation in the first round is conditioned by the payment of a registration fee of 100 USD. Registration for the first round takes place between 11.12.2006-11.1.2007, with submission of works no later than 18.1.2007. 3-5 designs will be selected for the second round, which will be rewarded with 5,000 USD.
Selected participants in the second round must have an office in Israel or demonstrate collaboration with an Israeli architectural firm that meets specific requirements. Additionally, they will collaborate in the design with one of four invited firms, including Foreign Office Architects. Submission of developed designs will take place in May 2007. Bezalel will cover 25,000 USD in costs for each participant in the second round, and for foreign competitors, an additional total sum of 10,000 USD is prepared to cover travel expenses.

It’s a pity that for the university campus competition there wasn't a customary student section announced even in today’s time (and in more civilized countries than ours).
