Ostrava - The city hall of Ostrava is once again looking for the best house in the city. Only the investors can submit houses to the House of the Year 2006 competition, and they can be not only new buildings but also renovated structures, said Marie Václavková, head of the information and public relations department, to ČTK today. The first place in the competition is associated with a reward of 300,000 crowns and also the awarding of a bronze plaque; for the second place, the reward is 150,000 crowns. Homes completed in the years 2005 and 2006 can be entered into the competition. The House of the Year competition has been announced by the city of Ostrava since 1994. The evaluation of the competition is not based solely on visual impression, but also on functionality, practicality, and quality of execution. Among well-known Ostrava buildings, the title of House of the Year is held by the covered winter stadium in Ostrava-Poruba, the Puppet Theatre, the Antonín Dvořák Theatre, and the Librex Book House. A building can be submitted to the competition by submitting an application at the secretariat of the Office of the Chief Architect of the City Hall of Ostrava, no later than February 28 at 12:00. The application can also be sent by mail. Applicants can collect the application from the competition secretary or download it from the city's website at www.ostrava.cz.
