Nové Strašecí - Nové Strašecí in the Rakovnicko region will announce an architectural competition next year for a new design of the town center. The entire Komenského Square is expected to be transformed. The actual work will not begin until at least 2021, said Karel Filip (ČSSD), the mayor of Nové Strašecí, today to ČTK.

The city is preparing the competition brief, which, according to the mayor, will not be very detailed to avoid unnecessarily limiting the architects. A jury will decide on the winning proposal. "Of course, there will be a committee composed of representatives from the city and independent experts from the architectural chamber," said Deputy Mayor Jan Bureš.

The renewal of the square has been in preparation by the leadership of Nové Strašecí for a long time, and the costs for the transformation may reach tens of millions of crowns, with the exact price only being clear after the project is created.

This spring, unknown perpetrators damaged the statue of a soldier that stands in the square. According to the mayor, it was a deliberate act, as they brought a hammer with them. A city camera captured them, but the perpetrators could not be definitively identified and proved to have damaged the statue. The police closed the investigation, stating that they were unable to determine the facts that would lead to the initiation of criminal proceedings.

The statue depicting a soldier of an unspecified army remains in storage for now, and only after the announcement of the results of the architectural competition will the city council decide whether it will return to the square.
