The award named after the famous Olomouc native aims to map the best of architecture, urbanism, and heritage conservation in Olomouc and the Olomouc region over the past two years. "To ensure a truly high-quality overview, a two-year interval has proven effective, as it provides a substantial basis for selection," explains Jana Kiesewetterová, the chairwoman of the association. The award has been granted since 2008 and relies on a nine-member jury. This year, along with Olomouc specialists (Jana Křenková, František Chupík) and Olomouc councilors (Tomáš Pejpek for the city of Olomouc, Jan Žurek from the Olomouc Region), the jury included Rostislav Švácha (chair of the committee), architects Zdenka Vydrová, Imrich Vaško, Jan Hora, and Barbora Hora (substitute), and art historian Martina Hrabová.
The committee was tasked with selecting a manageable number of finalists and the main winner from twenty-five nominated buildings. The most points in the two-round voting were awarded to the maintenance and management center of highways in Přerov by the Brno studio Pelčák and partner architects. "The complex loosely draws inspiration from old farmyards. In the industrial landscape of highway bypasses, the new building clearly demonstrates that even the support for technical infrastructure can – and should – be the subject of cultivated architectural work," states the jury’s report. "The 'gold' narrowly went to the semi-Olomouc team Malý Chmel for the innovative spatial concept of a family house in Radíkov." A surprise was the football stadium by Vít Janků in Postřelmov. "With its architectural qualities, it notably motivates Postřelmov football players to achieve higher performances and, as a tool for building good neighborly relations, ranks among the most sympathetic buildings of this year's award," claims Rostislav Švácha.
The jury was further impressed by four Olomouc reconstructions. Points were awarded to the corner building at Kateřinská 13 for the new CMTF Research Center from the Ječmen studio or the administration building at Masarykova 50 from the masparti studio. The same authors received a rare honorary mention for the preservation and reconstruction of public restrooms in Čechovy Sady. The R-ateliér of Miroslav Pospíšil maintained its traditional participation in the competition thanks to the adaptation of the Red Church into a new cultural center for the Scientific Library in Olomouc. The previous winners from Vřesovice – Jiří Markevič and Jaroslav Sedlák – confirmed their qualities by expanding the awarded elementary school with a well-reconstructed orlovna. Outside the traditional categories, a special award was given to architect Adam Lacina for his distinctive experimental approach to his profession and the popularization of architecture through the activities of the Praktik gallery. Ing. Stanislav Barákov received a special honorary recognition for his contributions to the field of statics. The event took place in collaboration with the Scientific Library in Olomouc, with the support of the Olomouc Region and the Czech Architecture Foundation.
