The lecture by Rebekka Kiesewetter and the subsequent discussion will focus on the new responsibilities of critical publishers, which can be derived from contemporary theory of performative materiality and from the understanding of publishing as a procedural tool framing spaces of exchange, meaning-making, and co-production. It is an administrative task that is not understood as a way of management and control according to the prevailing logic of the market or discipline, but rather involves the idea of care, support, and maneuvering. This is all done to challenge the conventions, assumptions, and protocols through which knowledge is created, mediated, and accepted within and through publishing, and to open up alternative perspectives and trajectories.

Rebekka Kiesewetter is an art historian, economist, and historian. Her work in the field of critical theory and practice as critique develops at the intersection of experimental publishing, art, architecture, and the humanities. She has worked as an author, managing editor, visiting professor at several universities, and as a curator and researcher in various formats. She is a founding member of DA Institute and a member and former co-director of Depot Basel. More at https://www.rebekkakiesewetter.com.
