The French architectural studio LAN architecture (Local Architecture Network) was founded in 2002 by Umberto Napolitano and Benoito Jallon, whose common goal is to build close ties between architecture and other disciplines in the fields of art and urban development. They advocate moderation, rationality, functionality, and flexibility. Besides many modern residential buildings, they have designed town halls, courts, and prisons, as well as the Le Maillon theater in Strasbourg and the renovation of part of the famous exhibition pavilion Grand Palais in Paris. Openness and connection with the exterior are typical of their work. Thanks to their creative activities, they quickly built an excellent reputation and won numerous competitions both at home and abroad.
