Karlík. A small village near Prague, nestled at the foot of a wooded hill. A small, modest house - a "block" situated on the edge of the built-up area, at the edge of a field.
The investor's wish was to create individual housing for a young family. To create essentially an ordinary house on a modest plot, which would be economically and operationally efficient and technologically undemanding to realize.
The proposed house is shaped into a block with dimensions of 15/6.5/6.5 m. It is two stories high, with a rectangular floor plan, a flat roof, and is not basement-level. The mass is softened by recesses and projections of surfaces or changes in their structure (rustication). The northern wall is closed, while the southern side opens to the sun and the garden. A garage is situated separately in the corner of the plot. Perpendicular to it is a below-ground wooden structure that serves as additional support for the house, storage, and a small workshop. These three volumes create a kind of "yard" in the back part of the plot, which extends the living space along the longitudinal axis somewhat..
The ground floor is essentially one continuous space partitioned only by a low partition (dining area) and a wall with a fireplace, located at the center of the living area. Within the "free" floor plan of the ground floor, the only enclosed part is the vestibule with a toilet, which adjoins the kitchen. The kitchen is connected to the dining area (eastern part of the floor plan) and the main living space at the end (western part). The sun enters the house in the morning and, throughout the day, increasingly larger openings let in more light. The placement of the staircase at the end of the layout against the western wall emphasizes the living function of the entire ground floor. Otherwise, the ground floor has two height levels that differ by 2 steps, responding to the gentle slope of the plot. A clear relationship to the garden and the south is expressed through glazed surfaces.
The single-flight staircase at the end of the ground floor leads to the corridor on the second floor. Movement is directed across the house and against the window. First against the sky, then the slope of the forest appears on the opposite side. The corridor is nothing more than a communication space. It passes by the rooms on the right side. The corridor is illuminated through their doors. At the end of the corridor, on the eastern side, there is a toilet with a boiler and a bathroom. From the bathtub, the tower of the chapel can be seen.
