The Restaurant U Křížů is located at the old-new address of the original long-standing Restaurant Špalíček in Brno at Zelný trh 12. During the reconstruction, both the interior and the background of the restaurant, including the underground part, were completely redesigned. The building has a baroque foundation and was insensitively renovated in the 1970s.
As part of the reconstruction, larger window openings were newly created, a massive central wall in the first archway was demolished, which originally separated the sales area into two spaces, and the overall appearance of the interior was completely transformed. Our aim was to create a classic restaurant inspired by Vienna with Austro-Hungarian cuisine and, of course, serving Pilsner beer on tap. This has resulted in a restaurant lined with light varnished wood, featuring a subtle horizontal black line that connects the entire interior into one unit. The furniture, including Ton chairs, is again in black. Mirrors with beveled edges on the walls then enlarge the space and, in the careless evening reflection, may convey a silent signal for the conclusion of consumption and return home.
