The Alvar Aalto Museum, a special museum of architecture, was founded in 1966. It is housed in a building designed by Aalto and completed in 1973. The museum has also been in charge of the Muuratsalo Experimental House since 1994.
The museum provides information about the work of Alvar Aalto, organises exhibitions, and produces design and architecture publications. In the display area it features a permanent collection illustrating some aspects of Alvar Aalto's work in architecture, lighting design, and industrial design. The new permanent exhibition on Alvar Aalto was opened at the beginning of 1998, the centenary of Aalto's birth.
