The plot is located in a flood zone near the Berounka River.
Construction and ConceptThe shape is a rectangular prism measuring 15×11×6 m, with a ramp embedded on one side and an atrium spanning two floors on the other side.
The house's foundations are deliberately raised 1.2 m above the surrounding terrain due to the threat of flooding, so that in the event of the river overflowing, water cannot flow into the house.
The house is constructed from Porotherm 30 P+D blocks and insulated with foam polystyrene.
The retaining wall at the parking spaces is made of exposed concrete.
The flat roof with PVC membrane is drained via exposed downspouts on the façade.
The atrium is covered with translucent polycarbonate.
The windows are wooden, and most of them are equipped with aluminum external blinds. The connection to the garden is maximized by using large glazed areas and steel columns instead of masonry. The garden and atrium are accessible through threshold-free HS portals. The windows in the rooms extend down to the floor, and the railings of the opening sections consist of frameless glass panels.
The kitchen window directly above the work surface brings daylight into the areas where it is most needed and allows visual contact with arriving guests and the entrance gate.
In the windowless dressing rooms, light tubes are installed to bring in daylight.
Access to the raised house includes a concrete staircase and a "barrier-free" ramp, which is “notched” into the mass of the house on the ground floor, thus being protected against rain and snow along with the entrance. On the garden side, the terrain has been artificially raised to have the terrace level with the lawn.
InteriorA large recessed bookshelf has been placed in the hallway on the ground floor.
The internal staircase is entirely wooden (oak), including the storage area beneath the landing. Notably, there is a recessed handrail in the center wall of the staircase.
Two types of veneer are used in the interior: oak (staircase) and darker walnut (cabinets in the bathrooms and WC).
On the floor above the staircase, there is a laundry chute that leads down to the technical room directly into the basket for dirty laundry located right next to the washing machine.
In the kitchen, the wall leading to the pantry is painted with black chalkboard magnetic paint, allowing for chalk writing and attaching pictures with magnets without consequences. The pantry features doors with a hidden frame and reverse opening. The same doors are used for the hallway closet on the upper floor. These doors make the opening almost invisible. It is only revealed by a thin seam between the door leaf and the hidden trim and handle.
Each room on the upper floor has a different door color (green, blue, yellow, white) according to the preferences of its users. The bathroom has been fitted with a door that has a round window evoking a maritime theme. The children's bathroom is tiled with colorful tiles after consulting with the children. The bathroom also includes a small infrared sauna.
MaterialsThe white plaster of the façade is complemented by wooden larch cladding in a rhombus profile. The wall of the atrium is clad with wooden plywood, which serves as a climbing wall, with prepared holes for installing climbing grips according to current needs and the desired difficulty level, which will evolve as the children grow.
The windows are wooden in a dark gray color. The reinforced parking area consists of 10×10 cm concrete cubes, and the terrace is made from boards of Siberian larch.
Owners' Evaluation of the HouseWe are glad that we collaborated with Jakub on our housing solution. He helped us choose the plot, designed our house, and supervised its construction. We have been living in the house for three years now, and we cannot praise it enough. The best thing about Jakub is the combination of his professional demeanor and creativity. Jakub is always pleasant, listens carefully to the client's needs, and designs the house to ensure it is comfortable to live in. He also thinks of details that would never occur to us, and he has the ability to explain everything understandably to a layperson. There were several times when we had doubts about something, and we are glad we trusted Jakub's opinion on all significant matters. It always turned out later that he knows what he is doing and that his solutions were the best. It is also very pleasant that Jakub never imposes his opinion but is always willing to discuss everything with us and explain why he prefers a particular solution. It was a joy to work with Jakub, and we can only recommend him to everyone. Thanks to him, our house is beautiful, very well thought out, and we live in it excellently. Bára and Tomáš Plockovi
