We have proposed typological projects for residential buildings made of wood in response to the need for affordable and sustainable housing in the Czech context. The project, in collaboration with the company Chytrý dům, is based on historically proven solutions that we have adapted to current demands. Instead of inventing new systems, we have modernized what has already worked in the past.

The first is a gallery house inspired by Bauhaus, and the second is a redesigned panel house from the 1970s. The main characteristic of both projects is their wooden structures that comply with today's global innovations regarding ecology, affordability, implementation efficiency, and circular construction.

Design Philosophy
Our designs for typological residential buildings are efficient and focused on functionality. We let wood naturally take the lead role while ensuring architectural quality, meaning a blend of aesthetics and practicality. Sustainability is the foundation of our projects; we fully utilize wood as a renewable material. Thanks to typological structures and prefabrication, we simplify implementation and accelerate construction.

We respond to the acute problem of inaccessible housing. The current situation is influenced by lengthy legislative processes and the absence of a conceptual housing policy. Many new apartments are not created according to real needs but as investment products. We offer sustainable, affordable solutions that reflect the needs of residents and make sense not only economically but also socially and urbanistically.

Wooden Design & Build Model
Wooden constructions are not a passing trend for us. We have been working with this concept for a long time and have been involved in wooden building projects for over a decade. Residential buildings made from this material are therefore a logical continuation of our practice. We combine aesthetics, functionality, and ecology, transferring these values into both family houses and larger residential complexes.

From the beginning, we develop the project in a close tandem of architect-builder. This approach ensures technical feasibility, cost-effectiveness, and aesthetic value in the designs. 0.5 Studio has long collaborated with the company Chytrý dům, and it is precisely due to this connection of know-how, design, and management that effective and cohesive solutions are created.

Gallery House MOZAIKA
This house was created as affordable social housing inspired by the iconic gallery house Hannes Meyer from the 1930s in Dessau. We updated the concept and transformed it into a modern and functional form. Each apartment unit has 55 m² and can be designed as a 3kk, 2kk, or 1kk. Service rooms are oriented toward the gallery, while living spaces face the landscape, ensuring privacy while also extending the living space with a 2-meter-wide gallery. Apartments can be arranged side by side, changing the number and the number of floors. Fire-resistant metal staircases create a contrast with the wooden structure and emphasize the combination of technical and natural approaches. The design supports individualization – balconies and windows can be modified, allowing residents to create a visual mosaic that gives the house a distinctive character.

Panel House EVOLO
A modern panel residential building. We build on the concept of panel houses of the G-OS type but bring essential improvements that reflect today's way of life. Our inspiration was the rational arrangement of a single-story module with four apartments ranging from 80-100 m². Each apartment features a 2-meter-wide loggia that can progressively connect with others, creating an open space across the floors. The new arrangement of utility cores allows for larger living areas and more open layouts connecting the living room with the kitchen. The ground floor is designed as an active parterre, allowing for the placement of a kindergarten, shop, or restaurant. Thanks to the central corridor, easy access to the apartments is ensured, which stand out with large glazing and views of the surrounding landscape. The layouts are flexible – apartments can easily be adapted as 2kk or 3kk. This approach ensures long-term usability and sustainable quality of housing.

Our Goals
With this project, we target municipalities seeking ways to address housing affordability and develop new neighborhoods, as well as smaller developers and investors looking for meaningful investment opportunities. We want to offer them projects that are legislatively simple, economically beneficial, and of high quality. We believe that the Design and Build method – that is, design and build – is the future of construction. Thanks to prefabricated wooden structures that we can easily adapt to local conditions, we can offer flexibility and high ecological value. The use of wood also helps to meet the conditions for grant programs.
