Renovation of the Sports Facilities at Karol Adler Secondary Technical SchoolThe Karol Adler Secondary Industrial School campus in Dúbravka, Bratislava, has undergone a comprehensive revitalization project. The goal was to transform a neglected school plot into a fully functional, attractive, and accessible public space. The project aimed to open the campus not only to students but also to the wider community – residents, children, and young people from the surrounding area – creating an inclusive place that encourages physical activity, relaxation, and informal gatherings.
At the heart of the revitalization is a new tartan running track with four lanes and a 90 x 45 m football pitch with pole lighting, along with supporting facilities for sports activities. These facilities consist of four recycled containers. A prominent yellow container by the running track functions as a refreshment stand and sports equipment storage, also serving as the supporting structure for the adjacent grandstand's roof. This yellow accent is echoed in the seats of the football dugout, as well as in the Bratislava Self-Governing Region (BSK) logos and climbing wall grips, creating a cohesive visual identity for the entire campus.
The remaining facilities comprise a composition of three anthracite containers on a yellow circular EPDM surface. These contain a storage room, changing rooms, and public restrooms. Within this area, there's also a workout playground with a climbing wall and furniture for seating and relaxation. Additionally, the campus features a long jump pit (near the grandstand), a shot put area, tennis courts, and a multi-purpose sports field.
The design also included the renovation and completion of the communication network within the campus – new paved surfaces, pathways, and barrier-free ramps ensure seamless movement between different parts of the area. Emphasis was placed on using durable and sustainable materials, as well as on greenery and rainwater management. Landscaping improvements included the planting of new trees, perennial beds, and the expansion of grassy areas.
Thanks to this comprehensive transformation, the campus now serves as a base for school sports activities during lessons, and in the afternoons and on weekends, it transforms into a safe and vibrant public space for all age groups. The revitalized Karol Adler Secondary Industrial School campus in Dúbravka has successfully become an attractive public space for both the school and the neighboring community, providing opportunities for sports, relaxation, and social interaction.
