Biography
Volker Giencke was born on June 27, 1947, in Wolfsberg, Southern Austria. He studied architecture and philosophy in Graz and Vienna. He worked in the architectural office of Merete Mattern (Munich/Berlin) and with Günther Domenig (Graz/Vienna). Since 1981, he has run his own architectural practice in Graz, the Klagenfurt/St. Veit construction office. From 1990 to 1992, he had a branch in Seville, Spain. His partner offices are located in Berlin, London, Los Angeles, Paris, and Vienna. Since 1992, he has been a professor of design at the University of Innsbruck. Abroad, he taught at the Yale School of Architecture in New Haven and at the Bartlett School of Architecture in London. He is a member of the Austrian Association for Architecture, the Central Society of Architects of Austria, the Forum Stadtpark in Graz, the Association of Visual Artists of Austria, an honorary member of the Association of German Architects BDA, and a member and co-owner of the Mies Bar der Rohe in Seville.
