Strakonice - Strakonice will begin a two-year reconstruction of the swimming stadium next year, costing approximately 200 million crowns. This involves a complete modernization of the more than 50-year-old sports facility. The indoor pool will therefore be closed for the entire duration. This was stated to ČTK by the Deputy Mayor of Strakonice, Rudolf Oberfalcer (Open Strakonice).
"We will start at the end of next year. We will initially allocate 22 million crowns from the budget for this, but further costs will arise in the following years," said the deputy mayor.
Strakonice has a covered 25-meter pool available. In addition, people can use an outdoor 50-meter pool, which is also covered with an inflatable roof during the winter, allowing for year-round operation. "During the reconstruction of the indoor pool, the outdoor one will remain open, so we can offer at least some option," the deputy mayor stated.
The facility in the Křemelka area began operations in 1973. It replaced a wooden river swimming area that was in Podskalí. The indoor swimming stadium in Strakonice is thus one of the oldest in South Bohemia. Previously, only the swimming area in České Budějovice had commenced operations.
Oberfalcer added that the planned reconstruction will affect practically all areas of the Strakonice facility. "A stainless steel basin will be created in the 25-meter pool to replace the current tiles. We will also completely replace all the technologies. At the same time, we will create shared changing rooms for men and women, which is already common in other pools," said Oberfalcer.
The number of pools in South Bohemia will thus temporarily decrease again. Last year, due to the poor condition of the roof, operations in Volary in the Prachatice region were closed. Also last year, the pool in Český Krumlov burned down and had to be demolished. In addition to Strakonice, covered swimming pools are currently in operation in České Budějovice, Tábor, Písek, Jindřichův Hradec, and Prachatice.
