Prague - Residents of the Malvazinky district in Prague 5 can now enjoy a new park that has been created on land previously intended for construction. Today, representatives of Prague 5 opened it, having spent about 35 million crowns excluding VAT on its construction. In the past, residential buildings were supposed to be built on the land in the area called Na Pláni, but this was abandoned due to local residents' objections. The park features a community garden, children’s and workout playgrounds, as well as benches and facilities for the public.

The grassy area, covering about 6000 square meters, is situated between K Vodojemu and Na Pláni streets in the villa quarter of Smíchov. The construction of the park began in 2023 with the demolition of old garages, and its center is a space serving as a sports field and a place for local residents to gather. Nearby, a children's playground and a facility with toilets, a kitchenette, changing rooms, and storage areas were created. The project also included the construction of a network of paths, public lighting, drainage, and landscaping.

"Such places strengthen the community and make a city a true home. I believe this park will become a natural part of life in our district. And that it will remain an open and friendly space, as it should be,” said the mayor of Prague 5, Lukáš Herold (ODS), at the park's ceremonial opening today.

Regarding the area, Prague 5 previously signed a contract with Geosan Group, which planned to build apartments there. After local residents' objections, the city council terminated the contract with the development company and subsequently won a court case. In the previous electoral term, the city district commissioned a study to develop the area, involving local residents in its preparation. Some of them later criticized the document for still not ruling out the construction of a smaller number of residential buildings.
