You may have encountered this too – you wanted to buy a canopy for your terrace at home to create some shade, but unfortunately, the construction of the house did not allow it.

One solution to a similar problem is large umbrellas. The classic umbrella design with a central pole has several disadvantages. The space under the umbrella is limited by the pole structure, and whether it's garden tables or loungers, their arrangement must conform to this limitation. Another restriction is the dependency of the created shade on the time of day. You are certainly familiar with this at the beach, where you have to constantly move the lounger to stay in the shade.

Both of these drawbacks can be addressed by new types of umbrellas with a side carrying arm, where the shading part is suspended under the support system. By designing the structure eccentrically outside the shaded area, the space under the umbrella can be used more effectively and practically, and also (in most of these models) the umbrellas are secured to a base in such a way that allows for rotation – enabling the shading part to be adjusted so that the shaded area remains consistent throughout the day. This can be a significant advantage for dining tables, for example.

Of course, the classic design of the umbrella with a central pole still has its applications in many other cases. For instance, when we want to shade an area measuring up to 6 x 6 m, this is the type of construction that can fulfill our requirements.

When selecting the most suitable type of umbrella, it is necessary to consider various aspects. What type of garden furniture do we want to buy the umbrella for? If we have modern designer furniture, we certainly wouldn't choose a promotional umbrella, which would be better suited for a cheap stall selling beer and sausages. Similarly, if we want to establish a summer patio at our restaurant or hotel in the historic city center.

The quality of the wood, the quality and color stability of the used covers, the ease of handling the umbrella and its maintenance, the stability of large shade fixtures, the overall size of the shaded area – all these are factors that we should definitely not forget when deciding on the right type of umbrella.
