The Květná Glassworks is among the oldest glassworks in the entire Czech Republic. Alois of Liechtenstein established the glassworks back in 1794. The site for construction was chosen very carefully in the center of beech forests near Uherský Ostroh in the cadastre of the municipality of Strání, a location with high-quality glass-making sand.
In Květná, soda-lime glass is still produced today using traditional methods in pot furnaces. All proprietary products consist of blown, hand-shaped items without lead additives, ensuring complete health safety. The product range includes more than two thousand types of products from crystal to various color combinations (with the possibility of melting 15 types of colored glass) and this assortment is constantly being expanded according to customer wishes. For over 200 years, the glassworks has been producing drinking and decorative glass in classic and modern shapes, which is decorated through cutting, etching, painting, frosting, engraving, or sandblasting.

Recently, the glassworks has resumed collaboration with well-known European designers from the 1920s and 1930s, such as Josef Hoffmann and Adolf Loos, and engaged in rich cooperation with the Viennese company Lobmeyr while also reaching out to prominent Czech designers such as the studio Olgoj Chorchoj, Rony Plesl, Barbora Škorpilová, Jiří Šuhájka, and others. With the new product line produced according to their designs, it aims to attract additional customers and introduce modern, yet underutilized elements into the glass market. The glassworks has already received several awards for its products. For the Mr. Egg design set (view it here), it received the Design Plus award, given by experts for original design and quality execution at the Ambiente 2006 fair in Frankfurt am Main. Květná is the first Czech company to receive this award.

The Mr. Egg set was also nominated by the expert jury for the German Design Award 2007. This award is sponsored by the German Ministry of Economics and organized by the German Design Council. It is not possible to apply for this competition; individual products must be selected by one of the federal ministers for economics or the federal ministry for economics. In the Czech Republic, the Mr. Egg set received an award from the Design Center of the Czech Republic in the category Good Design - Excellent Product of the Year 2006. This year, Květná Glassworks, together with the Klára glassworks, received the prestigious Czech Grand Design 2006 award in the category Manufacturer of the Year.
