Dear all,

I invite you to a Whispering Walk through Krnov, organized in collaboration with the civic association For Old Ostrava.
Date: Saturday, June 10, 2006, meeting at Castle Square in the center of Krnov at 10:30 AM

During the Whispering Walk through Krnov, we will focus on the transformation of the once-famous princely town into the so-called Silesian Manchester and the reflection of this transformation in architecture. The industrial development of the 19th and early 20th centuries brought with it pressure to remodel the historical core of the city. Remarkable buildings emerged that directly responded to events happening in the contemporary cultural centers - primarily in Vienna. In the works of the local native Leopold Bauer, who studied in the metropolis of the Habsburg monarchy and subsequently worked there until his death in 1938, Krnov achieved at least Central European renown. In addition to Bauer's buildings, such as the shooting range building, sports hall, reconstruction and extension of the Tiroler hotel (now Silesian Home), or the reconstruction of several villas of local industrialists, participants in the walk will have the opportunity to see the work of local and foreign architects and builders, such as Ernst Latzel, Josef Hartel, Moritz Hinträger, Franz Blasch, Otto Prutscher, Leo Kametz, and others.

Best regards,
Martin Strakoš
