Today's urban project relies much more on strategic and material aspects and is characterized by the intensity of an acupuncture-like intervention into the body's surface, which will affect the organs stored deep within. (Manuel de Sola-Morales)

The Institute of Urbanism at the Faculty of Architecture CTU organizes an annual working and program conference, the Inventory of Urbanism, focusing on current topics in the fields of urbanism, planning, project design, and construction of settlements. Last year's edition ("What is it really about?") was primarily devoted to urbanism as a discipline and identified current topics in architecture, settlements, and landscape from various perspectives. This year's edition focuses on the main subject of this discipline: the city. It is paradoxical that the more people live in cities, the less we understand cities as organisms, and consequently, the less we know how to build them. The second paradox is that although urban construction is an extraordinary economic, social, and cultural force, knowledge of this construction is on the fringes of political interest and that of politicians. The third paradox is that the principal tool for the protection, transformation, and development of cities is the bureaucratic mechanism of vulgarized functionalist spatial planning. The inherently creative work of strong politicians and renowned experts, based on social agreement, is replaced by anonymous, alibist actions in a hostile environment over a hostile plan. A typical example of this hopelessly "self-locking" path is Prague. Therefore, its "playground" will often serve as an example for other cities during this year's conference. Because there is only one city.

The second edition of the Inventory of Urbanism is organized under the auspices of the Czech Chamber of Architects and in partnership with the magazine Zlatý řez.
