The International Expert Symposium on ARCHITECTURAL HERITAGE OF THE LANDSCAPE – Issues and aspects of renewing the dialogue between historical objects and the landscape will take place from September 21 to 23, 2006, under the patronage of JUDr. Petr Pithart in the representative spaces of the West Bohemian Theater in Cheb. The project is carried out by the city of Cheb, with co-organizers being the Regional Museum Cheb and the West Bohemian Theater Cheb.
The symposium is planned as a three-day event. Two days will feature lectures divided into morning and afternoon blocks, while the third day is dedicated to a tour of the Landscape Exhibition without Borders in the cities of Cheb and Marktredwitz. In the theoretical part spread over the first two days of the symposium, principles will be discussed that can be practically observed on the third day at the sites of the landscape exhibition.
Each lecture block has its guarantors, organizations that proposed and organized individual parts of the program. The first block is guaranteed by the National Heritage Institute (The National Heritage Institute was established as a state-funded organization as of January 1, 2003, with nationwide jurisdiction, acting as a professional organization for state heritage care according to Act No. 20/1987 Coll. on State Heritage Care, as amended by Act No. 320/2002 Coll.). along with the ICOMOS movement (The International Council on Monuments and Sites). The second lecture block is guaranteed by the ANTIKOMPLEX movement (a civic association founded by a group of university and high school students in April 1998 in Prague). The third is led by the Czech Chamber of Architects (the CKA is a self-governing professional association established by Act No. 360/1992 Coll. on the practice of the profession of authorized architects, engineers, and technicians involved in construction). The fourth block is guaranteed by the cities of Cheb and Marktredwitz, as organizers of the Landscape Exhibition without Borders.
The aim of the symposium is primarily to establish a dialogue between the various fields and the people representing them; each block is designed such that all participants within a block will be present on stage and will lead a discussion after presenting their contributions. The discussion will initially be structured as a podium discussion and will later transition into a free discussion with the audience. Each discussion will have its moderator. To deepen the discussion space, an accompanying event – a reception – will take place after the end of the first lecture day in the historical premises of the Regional Museum in Cheb.
After the reception, the scientific committee of the conference will proceed to a joint dinner, from which a memorandum of the symposium will arise. The memorandum will define the insights and experiences gained from the contributions and discussions; it will be published at the end of the second day, and all participants will receive it. The theoretical part of the seminar will culminate with the memorandum.
The third day of the symposium is designated in the morning for visiting the Landscape Exhibition in Cheb and in the afternoon for visiting the Landscape Exhibition in Marktredwitz. The Landscape Exhibition as a phenomenon of landscape reclamation takes place in the Czech Republic for the very first time. A rich cultural program (concert by the group Čechomor, festive fireworks, flower show, etc.) is prepared for its grand finale. Symposium participants will have access to the Landscape Exhibition, including accompanying events as part of the participation fee on the symposium days.
