ZLÍN - A new cultural hall is now open to the residents and visitors of Zlín. The multipurpose hall at the Čepkov shopping center in the city center will be used for film screenings, dance classes, and concerts. Irena Ondrová, the deputy mayor, told ČTK today. The hall will be operated by Pragokoncert Bohemia for the next 15 years, a company selected by the city from several applicants. The operator has committed to dedicating 30 hours weekly for free to Zlín's amateur groups. "The dance group Fortuna and other interest groups have already expressed interest," said Jiří Daron, the director of Pragokoncert, to ČTK today. The operator must also organize twenty events for children free of charge each year. The public program will kick off on Wednesday with a concert by the German band Die Happy featuring singer Marta Jandová. In December, performances by the group Tři sestry and a theatre production by the Slovácké divadlo titled Rychlé šípy are planned. According to Daron, the hall will be used daily, primarily by interest groups during the week and for commercial events on weekends. The hall has a capacity of 300 people. The construction was largely financed by InterCora, which also built the nearby shopping center this year. The city conditioned the construction of the center on the building of the cultural hall. InterCora invested 17 million crowns in the construction, while the city allocated five million. After 50 years, the hall will transfer to the city's ownership.
